Microsoft Cut XBOX Price

Wednesday, September 2, 2009

Microsoft's Xbox 360 games console has responded to the threat of the cut-price PS3 Slim with an impressive 43 per cent sales surge for the Elite console.

On the day Sony's newly streamlined PlayStation 3 went on-sale in the Malaysia for a newly reduced RM 1256, Microsoft's decision to bring the top-end Elite SKU under RM 999 has paid dividends.

The RM 180 trim led to the sharp week-on-week increase in sales, with the busy Christmas period still to come, and sends a stark warning to arch rivals Sony that the RM 300 PS3 reduction may not be enough to tempt some gamers.

Sony hopes that its Blu-ray player, access to the BBC iPlayer and broadening access to online content will be a clincher as the battle for festive supremacy hots up.
